Waiting for a pick-up on the steps outside a European-style house in SoHo

flickr

This last Sunday we set out to enjoy the spring sun and took our time to to wander through the streets of SoHo. I had decided to take only my Zeiss 50mm lens and really get to know it. It is manual focus only and therefore it really slows you down; forcing you to compose the image correctly, giving time to check the framing and composition. While walking up Thompson Street we noticed this European-style 3 story house. I was intrigued enough by the building itself with its French “Boite aux Lettres”, the fleur-de-lis motifs on the tiles of the house number and steps, and the sconces for the lights. However, after taking a few photographs this chap walked up and sat on the steps. He looked for all the world like he belonged there, France in New York, so I took a few more photographs including him in the images then we walked over. Turns out his name is Jack, he is Portuguese and lived opposite this house for 30 years. He gave us some information including the fact it had just sold for $4.5 million. This, and the house next to it had the same feel as some others reported by Scouting NY in NoLita.
